...or attractiveness" -Po in Kung Fu Panda.
If you haven't seen that movie, you should. It's one of Charlie's favorites, right behind School House Rock. Those are the only two movies he'll watch in the mini van without having a full blown fit about 5 minutes into them. Being able to listen to the movie several hundred times, I've fallen in love with the whole story; an average panda who wants nothing more than to be a kung-fu warrior. I feel the same way Po does except I really want to be a good sewer. Is that a word? Seamstress? Why does that word have the word "stress" in it? Coincidence? I think not.
Anyway, I thought I'd teach myself how to sew since I already know kung-fu. No, not really. I just know karate. But they're practically the same thing. I took my sewing machine out of the box. The one I got as a Christmas present back in 2001. Yes, 2001. That is not a typo. And with this machine, I've been able to create some really spectacular things such as this...
are you ready for it?
you'd better hang on to your hats.
you've been warned. that's all I'm sayin;.
Behold: The Pillow.
I know. Total awesomeness, right? I mean, just look at the craftsmanship of it. The right angles! Oh, it's just mind-boggling. And a special thanks has to go out to my model holding The Pillow. It's actually his and he doesn't leave the house without it.
So after conquering the pillow, I decided to dive head first into my next sewing project. Can anyone tell me what Charlie's holding up here?
Um. What the heck are you doing, Buddy? (Why that's a perfect Horse-riding stance. You'd know that if you actually watched Kung-Fu Panda, Mom.)
Aw. That's sweet but can you hold it up for Mommy?
Oh never mind. I'll do it myself:
Why, it's a doll! A very organic looking doll. But a doll none the less. I made this for my oldest and she loves it. I took it downstairs to show my husband and he goes, Is that what it's supposed to look like? So I marched back upstairs and showed him the pattern:
And then he's all Where are the arms and legs? And I'm like, Well, I haven't learned how to do them yet and you can just shut it thankyouverymuchmisterknowitall.
So ignoring my husband and his disparaging remarks, I decided to continue riding the awesomeness wave, that is my sewing, and decided to do a really challenging project. I mean really, really challenging.
I'm not posting a photo of that.
It didn't turn out so good. In fact, you could say it's on the borderline of sucks-ville.
<sigh>
But not to worry dear blog readers. I will not be stopped. Ho ho. No. It's going to take more than that to stop me. After all, it wasn't until Po realized that there was no secret ingredient that he started believing that he was the Dragon Warrior. So there's still hope for me...
On to Friday's layout:
This is the second week's sketch from Ella Publishing. I'm really enjoying doing these. The sketches are super easy to do.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
