i never have any issues with my oldest getting a year older. maybe it's because she was born with an old soul. honestly, i think that's just a nice way of saying one is boring.
but seriously, my oldest isn't boring. she's just ready for every new thing that comes her way with open arms.
i think she would like to stay little forever. i think she misses being able to sit on my lap, like her little brother does. i think she would rather stay home with me and play all day if she could. i still think of her as the baby of the family because she was, until four years ago when charlie arrived.
and this is why i have the hardest time with seeing her get older.
back in march, she won her first all-around state champion in gymnastics. that was a major goal she set for herself the previous year when she came in second place in state. my goal when i was eight was forcing myself to finish The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
she also got her first B in math.
let's just say i momentarily lost my mind when i saw her report card. i think i may have said something like this, "you're half me. which makes you half asian. which means you're supposed to "get" math..how is this even possible?"
not a proud mommy moment for me.
we got through it and i haven't had another meltdown since then because richard assured me that she will be fine and probably be the happiest out of the three kids when she gets older. he's right because she's always been the happiest, most lovable, kindest, charming kid i've known.
well, it's nearly finished. i can see the end in sight. i just need a mirror, window treatment, pictures on the walls and an overhead light fixture and the bathroom will be done. what i thought would take about a month has been going on for a little over two months now.it always seems like the little stuff takes the longest to complete.
but it's nearly finished.
here's what the main bath looked like before:
and what it looks like now:
and the new double sink vanity:
another view of the old vanity that was falling apart:
and the new one :)
the kids love the new tub because it's very deep and charlie has tons more room to play during his baths. i don't have a picture of the tub because it's just white, surrounded by more white walls of cultured marble. but here's my shower curtain:
next up, i'll be showing you maddie's pink and orange room that i'm finishing up.
the kids were on spring break this past week and i had promised my oldest that i would start on her room since i had done the younger ones' rooms. she's been patiently waiting until the weather turned warmer so i could start painting. i have most of her room complete but the bedding is on backorder so i won't be posting any pictures of it until the duvet cover gets here but here are a couple of peeks to what i have finished so far.
shelving units: the before
kind if a hot mess, no? really, i just need to get everything off and start from scratch. and that's what i did.
i took the plain backing off of the shelving unit and put glued gift wrapping paper that i found in target on it. don't look too closely because i put it on there crooked.
:) and yes, it is pink and orange.
here's a closer look at the tissue paper pom poms on top:
i need to add an orange one on there for good measure.
i don't know what week this is but i'm surprised that i'm keeping up with the weekly layouts.
last week was a bit of a blur for us. so much going on; birthday party, playdate, gymnastic meet, academic meets, private lessons, allergy shots and the beginning of my bathroom renovation.
i used cz's free template and listed everything we had to do for each day.
i think my friend laurie and my sister are going to start their project life very, very soon. we're just trying to figure out a day where both can come over for a few hours and put their albums together.
i thought i'd post this morning of my latest renovation. well, it's not really a renovation but more of a redecoration since no walls came down. katie's room used to have off-white walls and the trim was a putty green. not pretty. when i asked her what colors she'd like for her room, she said red, black and white. those are her gymnastics's team colors. not the easiest color combo to work with but i did my best and this is her new room.
here's the view of her window:
and there's charlie. never far away from me...
her little end table will be painted either black or white and maybe even distressed if i can figure out how to do that technique.
