bathroom renovation: part two

well, it's nearly finished. i can see the end in sight. i just need a mirror, window treatment, pictures on the walls and an overhead light fixture and the bathroom will be done. what i thought would take about a month has been going on for a little over two months now.it always seems like the little stuff takes the longest to complete.

but it's nearly finished.

the kids love the new tub because it's very deep and charlie has tons more room to play during his baths. i don't have a picture of the tub because it's just white, surrounded by more white walls of cultured marble. but here's my shower curtain:

pink and orange: maddie's room

the kids were on spring break this past week and i had promised my oldest that i would start on her room since i had done the younger ones' rooms. she's been patiently waiting until the weather turned warmer so i could start painting. i have most of her room complete but the bedding is on backorder so i won't be posting any pictures of it until the duvet cover gets here but here are a couple of peeks to what i have finished so far.

shelving units: the before

kind if a hot mess, no? really, i just need to get everything off and start from scratch. and that's what i did.

the after:

i took the plain backing off of the shelving unit and put glued gift wrapping paper that i found in target on it. don't look too closely because i put it on there crooked.

:) and yes, it is pink and orange.

i need to add an orange one on there for good measure.

i will be updating with more of her room soon.

bathroom renovation: part 1

we've begun our bathroom renovation.

and the pink tile is leaving the house forever.

i hope to never see pink tile again in my life.

katie's room

i thought i'd post this morning of my latest renovation. well, it's not really a renovation but more of a redecoration since no walls came down. katie's room used to have off-white walls and the trim was a putty green. not pretty. when i asked her what colors she'd like for her room, she said red, black and white. those are her gymnastics's team colors. not the easiest color combo to work with but i did my best and this is her new room.

her little end table will be painted either black or white and maybe even distressed if i can figure out how to do that technique.

charlie's room is finished :)

i've been renovating. i'm glad it's done. at least for now.

i decided that charlies' poor little room needed a face lift. here's what it looked like before:

well here's what it looks like now:

got rid of the paneling and drywalled. also added a nice thick crown molding on top in a crisp white and 6" baseboards. you can't see the baseboards in these photos...

going clockwise, here's what his next wall looked like:

i tired priming the panel and it was a complete fail. so here's what his door and window look like now:

ahhh...so much nicer. me likey the yellow door.

next comes his closet and focal wall; i give you the BEFORE:

and now this is what it looks like:

lastly, his door to the rest of the house. i don't have a before photo of that because it was just more of the same gross paneling.

i still have a can of chalkboard paint and i think i'm going to paint the top of his little table and use dustless chalk.

l'office.

it's finished.

it's finally finished. for the most part. just a few more photos on the walls and a couch along the wall in the kid's work area. but here's what it looks like:

 

my main office is to the left as you come up the stairs. here's the other side, from my chair:

i have shelves behind my chair that houses all my scrapping stuff:

and to my right from my chair. we decided to put down the foamy stuff on the floor so it would add extra padding to the floors. we have a computer in there for the girls so they don't have to breath on me to use my computer.

attic renovations: part 2

As some of you may know, we started renovations on my attic. And when I say "we", I mean my husband and his crew. Actually, not even my husband. Just his crew.
I posted back in September when it first started and I would post the link but for some odd reason, Typepad only shows the main page addy whenever I go to any page so that would be pointless. But this is what it looked like when it first started:

The insulation had just gone up, along with the framing for the drywall.
Then in a few weeks, it looked like this:

Can I just tell you how much Charlie LOVES being up there? He cries every time we leave. He's such a punk.
So all the insulation is up and ready for the drywall...

As always, with drywall comes drywall dust. It was pretty much everywhere in the house. But a small price to pay...

And then a few weeks of sanding and sanding and more sanding, the paint finally went up:

I chose a granny smith apple green just for the accent walls. The rest of the walls stayed a nice neutral.Then in came my flooing:

I wanted a dark, almost black wood for my floors and when i found out how much that was going to cost, I settled for a nice laminate in a brownish color. This was probably the hardest decision I've had to make. Probably because it was the most costly one too.
The trim is up and so are the lights:

I have four of these babies along one wall and two on the opposite side. I'm no longer going to be living in a cave! This makes me SO happy. I may have over compensated for my current space's lack of light. I think the amount of light I have up there could light a small town.

So who's ready to come over and scrap with me?

serenity now

This past week was the start of my attic renovations. My attic is completely unfinished...there wasn't even any insulation on the ceilings and there was just a strip of flooring that went down the center. I don't have a before photo but this is what it generally looks like:

It's a very shallow attic but I think it'll be big enough to house my new office and play area for the kids...

The tallest of the attic is going to be 7 feet:

I was a bit concerned about that but then I realized I'll be sitting most of the time I'm up there and the kids don't have a real chance of being all that tall, what with my and richard's genes.
My wall is going up now. I think they're called studs for the drywall?
So there you have it. My attic renovation. I'm so excited about having the space and a space for the kids to play and hang out. I just never expected the amount of noise that goes into any renovation. It's constant banging, electric sawing, wood squeaking and the occasional dropping of the hammer or whatever large took they happen to be working with. From 9:00am-6:00pm. I know it annoys Richard because he's all like, what did you expect? And I'm all like, well gee honey, I don't know. I don't DO any renovations. And he's all like, well you're the one who wanted the attic finished. And I'm like, well you can just shut it. :P

Deep breaths.

I know. I just need to suck it up. It's a small price to pay for something that's going to be completely awesome. I'll stop whining now. Thanks for letting me vent...
