project life: the beginning

well, i started on my project life this past week. it's been a struggle, i must say, trying to catch up on the past three weeks. and find photos. and find stories to go with the photos. and make it look all purdy too.

but i finished the title pages:

i tell ya, having an iphone really does help. that's right, i said iphone...the thing that i didn't think i'd ever own in my previous post. well, my husband surprised me with one at christmas. he's usually the one that handles all the technology in our household and is an anti-apple user. and still is. he makes fun of my phone all the time. but i don't care because now i snap photos whenever i want.

and actually will DO project life.

in no particular order...

so i'm still working on getting everything together for my thankful journal. i'm going to have these printed out as 6x4 prints and place them in here by american crafts:

these are not in order (of course) but the number corresponds to the dates in november.

i used these digi papers and a template from my friend Liz had as a freebie a couple of years ago on her blog.

hope all my US friends had a wonderful thanksgiving!

all before noon...

1. one kid is home from school due to strep.

2. one kid forgot to take her violin to school only after i reminded her 15 minutes before she headed out to school.

3. one completely unnecessary trip to the school.

4. one dentist visit.

5. one doctor's visit (see #1)

6. two trips to the grocery because one store doesn't carry apricot preserves.

7. two emails to teacher.

8. two facebook status updates (rare for me)

9. one kid dropped off at preschool and then picked up three hours later

10. one photo album loaded onto site and only 2 more to go...

11. one babysitter confirmed to come tonight so i can have a date with husband.

12. one happy mama.

monday meanderings: fa lalalalalala...

so it begins..

the start of the santa threats. charlie was being so disagreeable this morning that i had to tell him that i was going to email santa to let him know what he had done. of course that instantly struck fear into his eyes. something i don't see very often these days. so on our way to his preschool, he asked why i had to tell santa everything he had done. and i responded with, if you would just behave and be a good listener, i wouldn't have to tell santa anything.

that pretty much shut him up for the rest of the short ride to preschool.

oh, and i didn't even have to bribe him to take these pictures. he just asked to have his picture taken today. i do love this boy so.

 

thankful journal?

so i'm seeing all these posts on facebook about what people are thankful for and i thought to myself, oh i am SO not doing that.

:P

i know. there are times when i even think that i'm not right in the head. like, how can someone be such a negative nelly, a debbie downer about everything when there is SO much in my life to really be thankful for? so i decided while i was in the shower that i'm going to start one. i'm only 4 days behind, pretty typical of me but i'm going to keep it simple. simple and easy and non-stressful.

as i stepped out of the shower and dried myself off, i lifted the lid to the toilet and noticed that it was FLUSHED (because i can't brush my teeth in a bathroom with a dirty toilet; weird, i know) and thought to myself, thankful journal entry #4.

it's the little things, people...and because normal people on facebook posted all the most ADORABLE pictures of their little ones on halloween and i posted this:

charlie's room is finished :)

i've been renovating. i'm glad it's done. at least for now.

i decided that charlies' poor little room needed a face lift. here's what it looked like before:

well here's what it looks like now:

got rid of the paneling and drywalled. also added a nice thick crown molding on top in a crisp white and 6" baseboards. you can't see the baseboards in these photos...

going clockwise, here's what his next wall looked like:

i tired priming the panel and it was a complete fail. so here's what his door and window look like now:

ahhh...so much nicer. me likey the yellow door.

next comes his closet and focal wall; i give you the BEFORE:

lastly, his door to the rest of the house. i don't have a before photo of that because it was just more of the same gross paneling.

but here's what it looks like now:

you can see the baseboards in this photo.

i still have a can of chalkboard paint and i think i'm going to paint the top of his little table and use dustless chalk.

ch-ch-ch-changes...

hey guys. how ya been? i've been good. thanks for asking. things have been a little crazy around here as of late. i've started a renovation project that just keeps going and going and going. you know how when you see a person vomit, you feel like you're going to vomit too and other people around start throwing up too? yeah. that's how this "small" renovation is like. it started with my entryway and it's gone into charlie's room. and i really doubt it's going to stop there. after charlie's room, i want to redo my 1950-style bathrooms, complete with the seafoam green tiles or the pink tiles, depending on which bathroom i want to do first.

as soon as i get my entryway finished, i will post before and after pix. but i'll give you a hint. it's gray. i love gray. and charlie's room? it's gray too. but slightly lighter. it was time he started sleeping on a normal size bed instead of the toddler bed. he's going to be four for goodness sakes.

if you have a pinterest account, i have some pins of things i love for my dream house. i just have to figure out to do them all on a shoestring budget.

she turns ten today.

TEN.

geezus. now she's a pre-teen. and then she'll be a teenager. and then she'll be going off to college and leaving me. and then she'll grduate with a kick-ass degree that allows her to live comfortably in a city within a 3-hour drive from me. and she'll come a visit me and take me out to lunch.

hey, i'm a korean mother. i have high expectations from my first born child.

turning the big four-oh.

well, i turned this yesterday:

surprisingly, it wasn't as devastating as i thought it would be. i got wonderful cards from my family which included several gift cards from my favorite store of all time-Target. and i got a nice text from my sister and sister-in-law wishing me a happy birthday. and an odd call from my parents. they sounded happy-almost giddy. it's odd because my dad is never happy, let alone giddy. and for them to be together AND happy? well, there's always a first for everything, right?

and i received lots of birthday wishes from my FB friends. i tell ya, they know how to make an old gal feel loved.

so thank you all!

he slays me sometimes...

charlie and i got home this past monday from spending a week in seattle for my cousin's wedding. when i got home, i saw a couple of mustaches that the girls must have gotten while i was away...

fun ensued.

now i'm just trying to get back into the routine of having to make meals and washing clothes again.

blech.
